An Evening with The Body Shop

Liverpool may be the spawning ground of many a music sensation (The Beatles, Cilla, Gerry and the Pacemakers) but did you know that Brighton at the base of England is the spawning ground for a well known  natural beauty store or brand?   And I'm lucky enough  to live nearby.  Yes, Brighton spawned The Body Shop.   Well perhaps Anita Roddick should get some credit, haha.   On 26th March 1976 in Brighton, on the south coast of England Anita opened her first store.  Now, as you know, they are a global phenomenon spreading their philosophy as widely as their lotions.  Last  September The Body Shop joined the Natura family,  Brazil’s number one cosmetics company.  Both brands  are against animal testing and believers in ethics and sustainability. On the subject of animal testing they are aiming to raise 8 million signatures on a petition to take to the UN. You will find the link at the bottom of this post.

On Tuesday I was one of 30 or so bloggers who attended a Bloggers Event in the current Brighton store, just around the corner from the original site.

We were welcomed with Proscecco and nibbles donated by Wagamama.

I had the opportunity to have a hand massage which was a lovely treat.  The Kukui cream from the World Spa was literally a spa on my hands but what made a significant difference to their smoothness was a scrub used before'hand' (pun just noticed).    I would not be lying if I told you that the next day I was still admiring the smoothness of my hands.  Obviously the  dryness had returned (no cream has that moisturising longevity...if it does tell me now) but I was struck by the smoothness.  Do you use a scrub on your hands or just cream, like me? I will scrub in future and may treat myself to a small pot of this scrub to see whether I notice a difference to my hands.

My face...keeping it real!

The Roots of Strength range which is a new offering and vegan, is a range I'd like to explore more. It's designed for my age and over  and, well let them tell you here .  This range has been brought out to replace the pomegranate collection which is now discontinued.  I was shown a drop of this serum on my hand and did notice a visible tightening.

After 3 years of wading through QVC bargains I needed to buy hand cream so I bought their iconic Hemp cream.  I know my blogging friend SSG in Sydney is a fan of this hand cream.  (What was I saying about being global).

I also bought this face cloth.  Honestly I've used it 3 times and love it.  It wipes away the make-up without being harsh but what I really, really like is that it leaves my face almost dry.  It's like magic. Oh, and unlike my muslin cloths it does remove my eye make up so I don't look like this the next morning.

My other purchase was a cactus back brush. Why? I just fancy being able to scrub my back.

My plus one, my photographer, Mr Him of Anna Mutton Years fame, had quite a splurge.  He bought 4 things from the Aloe range.  He suffers from flaky dry skin now and then (more now than then) and so exfoliates.  After the exfoliation he has a compounded problem of red sore skin. So he took the opportunity to have a consultation and was  recommended the Aloe range. He purchased foaming face wash for twice a day use, soothing gel  for after shaving, day cream ironically for night time as it's light and  soothing moisture lotion for day wear as it has an SPF.

His opinion - it's too early to tell about the effectiveness of the products but having a twice a day routine in itself has already helped his skin.

I have a few items in a goody bag to test and I'll report back during a future post.

As I mentioned The Body Shop is against testing on animals, has a vegan range now, is 100% vegetarian and 80% of products are paraben free (so the website says.) They have a petition (Join the Fight Against Animal Testing) that they wish to present to the UN with 8 million signatures.  Here is where you will find the petition to sign if you wish to do so.

  3. Looking lovely in the pics, my friend and that hand treatment sounds impressive. Body Shop does the best Born Lippy range. But what's impressing me darling is the blogger event invite! My Blogger Invite phone is like the Carlsberg Complaints phone, it's dusted over and I've forgotten where it is in the house 😢. On a more upbeat note, Mr Him has bowled me over, by going to the event as your photographer and then also going on a shopping spree! Maximum respect.
    Hugs, happy weekend,x.
