A Practical Outfit

Today I'm going to talk about a simple practical outfit as we all have those sorts of days don't we.  If you are looking for glamour I suggest you move on now, haha.

For those of you who have stuck around let's agree that we all sometimes want to look, er,  'nice',  but have to consider practicalities.  It might be visiting grandchildren and being used as a bouncy castle on the floor.  It might be a visit to the garden centre.  It might be doing tasks for an elderly relative. In my case this time it was visiting my mother in hospital.

So, let's build a practical outfit.

Step 1

Consider the audience.  In this case my mother and my beauty therapist  and nurses.  I chose my new pretty H&M blouse. Cheap but pretty.

Step 2

Consider the journey.  I was going to drive an hour and a half to hospital to see my mum followed by arriving home in time to keep my appointment for waxing.  I chose jeggings to be comfortable and flat ankle boots for driving in.

Step 3

Consider the temperature.  It was a sunny but frosty day but I was going to be in a car and then just had a walk across a car park. I didn't want a bulky coat.  I chose my Barefoot Dreams cardigan for warmth.  I honestly think this cardigan is going to see a lot of action.  It's my first Barefoot Dreams and just so snug.  Like wearing a blanket. You can understand why I  was happy to drive in it  that frosty morning if you have one.

Step 4

The bag. I chose a big suede one to carry the books and chocolates that I was taking.

Step 5

I kept my makeup simple.

  1. I couldn't agree more. We have to take into consideration our day, the tasks/activities/work/errands we are doing, the places we are going, the weather and such. You did a good job nevertheless and I love the whole-blue look. I need a Barefoot Dreams Cardigan. Yours is dreamy and such a cute print on that H&M top.

P.S. Would you like to co-host one of my linkups sometimes?!

  3. I agree with all of these tips. When I plan my outfits for the week I consult the weather, my work and personal calandac. I eapeespeci like your tip about choosing a purse that fits the occasion. Smart.

  5. I build my outfits from the ground up, literally - I start with shoes. How much walking will I be doing, how warm do my feet need to be, etc., and then go from there.

  6. I think I do this automatically, but have never analysed it before.

  8. Great tips - my husband gets a little fed up with me saying I can't walk because I'm wearing the wrong shoes or I feel a bit too cold! I'm getting better with it (I take spare shoes in my bag haha) xx Maria

    1. I can moan as much as i like but don't win so have to wear comfortable shoes whenever we go out locally as he insists we walk.

  9. Absolutely agree, I tend to dress feet up, if my feet are comfortable then the rest follows!! I then decide on bag and coat and whether it is warm or cold ... Michelle xx
