How to Layer to Look Smart at Home

Hello friends and salutations this Sunday.  How has your week gone?  I have finally returned to the office but my back is far from perfect.  On Wednesday I had to send out a whole building email ( and I never, ever do that) asking for 'anti-inflammatory gel, not for meetings....'  Well that got a few comments and I do think anti-inflammatory gel for meetings should be a thing.  It also brought a few kind offers of going out to buy me some, or to go home to get some.  However one person did have a tube but as he was a first aider he couldn't give it to me.  He could leave it on his desk and I take it.   Gotta love health and safety haven't you!

Thank you for all of your good wishes on my blog, instagram and facebook whilst I have been suffering.

Now today's post does hark back to me being at home.  Whilst I was working from home using my ironing board and kitchen table as a laptop desk, and with the month being unpredictable January, I found myself layering my clothes.   I could have thrown on an old cardi and been done with it but I had got to the point of wanting to dress properly and even have make up on. As it turned out it was as well as I joined quite a few skype meetings and many were video.  Maybe they wanted to catch me in my dressing gown, I don't know.

Today I want to share with you what I found useful to layer for working at home.  In these clothes I found that I didn't need to play with the heating or even de-layer.  Quite clever now that I reflect on it, right!

First up is a T shirt, blouse and cardigan.  If it got too warm I could take off the cardi but as it happened I had no need.  The open shirt kept me cool, and we know how we want that don't we ladies.

My second look was one for a day that was slightly warmer.  I like the play of reds together.   I just adored having nail varnish on too.  It made me feel so much more dressed considering how I was earlier in the month.  I adore this pink from Butter London

I love a poncho and the shame was that I wasn't going out, but there was skype to share my outfit on, even if they didn't coment, go figure.   I wore this ove a breton as I just love to show a flash of stripes, don't you.  This poncho is old but hardly worn.  I really must use it more.

(I'm holding my phone as I am using it as a camera remote, sorry about that.)

Flush with the success of the above poncho I dug out another for the next day.  This time layering a polyester roll neck underneath.  Both ponchos are from the brand Cadenza which you find in many boutiques in the UK and available on line.  This one might as well be called Joseph as it comes in many colours, haha.   If I was going out I would have added a long pendant to this look but for indoors working this was fine.

It has toggles down the side so as it can by styled in a variety of ways.  I'm not clever enough to do more than this but I will play one day. I bought my ponchos from a shop in Horsham a few years ago.

    1. Thank you. It's still not perfect at all. I'm seeing osteo and that helps but I can't believe how long this is going on for. I was back on co-codoemol today, just 15g codeine but gosh, this has been weeks now. Anyway I am better this week then last, and last better then the prior one. Please join my new weekly linkup tomorrow, Monday.

  2. Nice looks for home or for casual Fridays. Layering sounds like a clever alternative to outputting the central heating on during the day, which is something I sneakily do. Through I've been in thick double later cardis since Friday - turning cold eh?

  3. Anna I sure hope your back is better soon, what an ordeal! When your back hurts it seems everything hurts, I am so sorry you are dealing with this. I am loving all of your layered looks though; especially that poncho. I just ordered one today - I have been admiring them and finally decided to go for it!
Here's hoping your back is 100% soon!

  4. You must definitely be feeling much better now you are dressing again. A bad back is so debilitating. Your layering is great for at home and you taking pride in what you are wearing helps to make you feel better about yourself. Glad to hear you are on the mend.

    1. Thank you. It is one reason that I made such an effort, to feel better about myself. the 2 prior weeks I hadn't put on make up at all. In fact last Wednesday was the first time I had driven a car in over a month!

  7. So here's a Q - if you can't take ibruprofen because it upsets your stomach, do the anti inflammatory gels have the same problem or are they OK because they bypass the blood? I'd be interested to know. Nice poncho - such a useful garment! And great manicure game.

    1. One of my colleagues cameto my desk to ask the same question. He thought I shouldn't have the gel. In my case I was avoiding putting NSAIDS in my stomach as it has been I flamed a week earlier from the Naprosyn. I can normally take internally. It wasn't allergy related . So I think for me the gel was fine as it avoided the stomach . My colleague then recommended some tabs to take for a week that will sort out my stomach . I've got those from the chemist and half way through the course. I'm much better now and can even drink wine, thank goodness 😂

  8. Vests that open in the front and add scarves , mufflers . Hope your feeling better . I am concerned why not the ability to state I gave product to someone who needed and be restocked immediately it's an externally applied product .

    1. I was borrowing it but if he had given it to me it would have appeared as he was recommending it as a first aider, which he couldn't do.

  11. It's great you were able to track down some medicine in the office for you! :) You layered so well for working from home too - I usually default to a simple dress, I never get overly dressed up (and rarely ever have my camera on even if I am in a skype meeting working from home, haha)

Hope that you are having a great start to your week :) I just posted my weekday wear linkup, I'd love you to join! :)

  13. Anna, delighted you're feeling a bit better. Backs seem to take forever to heal... I'd been thinking for a while I wanted to say I'm so impressed that you are able to keep up a fun blog and social media posts, all while still working a full-time job outside the house! Most of the other folks I follow seem to do this as a full-time gig on its own from home. You've either got great time management skills or need little sleep -or both! Anyway, I enjoy following you from Across the Pond. Now heal up.
